But it makes one wonder how they did the minor arched ones so easily back in the day..
I mean windows back when that was built are not the same as windows today. Making a single pane glass window is fairly easy to do in any shape, making a double/triple pane modern window in custom shapes is certainly possible, but its not a stock item.

Mmm that IS true - it would have been single pane single glazed back then.. not all the complicated stuff now to keep heat in..

still.. you would think .. at least in THIS city, with SO many century homes that there would be a company that specialized SPECIFICALLY in upgrading those types of windows..

Your guess is as good as mine...

I don’t know about that specific type, but there are a few manufacturers of “old-style” windows around southern Ontario thanks to our heritage and the efforts of people to maintain those. It is more of a boutique, Stratford-esque thing, though- not as much here. Waterloo taps into it I believe.

In any case, I can forgive not going with such a bespoke provider. This project looks great and there’s plenty going into it as we speak.

Ridley does a lot of the heritage building windows in Toronto. They've done their share of arched windows, so I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem to have a rectangular window with a bowed top.
Yup - and they look pretty damn good - it woulda been nice if they had gone the extra step and restored them PROPERLY.

Looks like the dormers and roof that they built new is a perfect match for the existing part. Great attention to detail so far.
This is why we're always grouchy with other builds - with Core urban and a select few others the quality difference is just so noticeable and appreciated. Buildings like these deserve to be properly restored :)

Will the dormers actually be used as units though, or will it just be storage space..?

Wow I don't remember the last time I have seen "stone" restoration since the battered womens ruin restoration near the hospital downtown!

They remain the pinnacle of development and restoration for our city - we are truly blessed to have them!

Also I can't tell from the angle of the new pics, did they remove the stone wall between the old part and the new for the dormers? It seems like they would have to to make it symmetrical for the dormers..

Also what the coppley originally looked like:

As you can see the roof iron elements were removed as was part of the "chimney" stone element on the top. I wish Core Urban had tried to restore these as well for a full restoration. You can see the building was also even LONGER originally, with the last part having being demolished. It's why the side of the building looks so "torn off".

The two images above confuse me a bit though as the first ones proportions are too big and too tall, esp. the part in the middle.. so not sure what happened there..

Mind you this was refitted with dormers in the past as well so they opted for the last restoration:

Kinda glad they did away with those triangular dormers with the circles in the middle though..
