Emailed Bike Share to ask what ways people can report broken docks/stations and this was the response:

"You can always contact us by phone or email to report broken stations, and we would be happy to transfer your comments to our operations team so they can assess the situation as quick as possible."

There is always room for expansion but BikeShare has really expanded amazingly fast in last year or two.

I suppose what I meant to articulate is that while expansion is going at a rapid pace, if this were a private business, they would be in the growth stage of the product cycle and trying to scale rapidly and capture explosive growth and greater market share. There is a real opportunity to capitalize on this growth and significantly change mode share of how people travel in the city using this system.

Instead of recognizing the opportunity and revising growth plans and urging the backers (the city) to dump capital investment into the product, it seems that BikeShare is just maintaining steady in the growth plans laid out years previously. Of course, they are not a private business but beholden to public institutions and bureaucracy and will do things at a different pace unless urged on by a maverick politician or civil servant. It just feels like a potential missed opportunity.

Councillors have the ability to postpone things and the renowned Etobicoke objections to bike lanes would probably mean there is less demand for Bike Share too. It would also not surprise me if the local councillors try to discourage Bike Share expansion in their Wards in case it results in more cyclists and more support for bike lanes.

For all intents and purposes, yes.

Proposed locations are submitted to Councillors' offices for approval.

I've got a post up in the Finch LRT thread that concerns Bikeshare and its non re-deployment of stations/docks along the new line.

I won't duplicate that here, but direct interested readers over to that thread.

But while I was looking at that on the Bikeshare System Map..........I noted a need to return to an old hobby horse of mine..........empty stations/docks at York U. We're in the midst of the school year, this is the time to build ridership interest on campus.

So lets see the state of things, shall we?

That's right, six stations, ZERO bikes.

Sigh.

Perhaps they'll re-deploy the stations along the LRT shortly (I guess a reason why could be that technically the bike lanes on Finch are still "closed", as there were pylons & halfhearted yellow tape noting that at quite a few intersections... even if there didn't seem to be any visible issues)

When I was biking on Sunday, I noticed that the Yorkgate Mall bike station I previously used in September no longer existed.
Looking on the map today, it appears that in the last day or so, they've re-added the station, but a block away where the Finch Rec Trail meets Driftwood.
