Nah, it's more likely that they used temporary steel extensions to get to the 300m mark and have their photo op and bragging rights. Now they've replaced those temporary extensions with the actual permanent ones.

I believe the temporary ones only just reached the 300m mark but these new ones seem to be reaching the final height of 308m.

No spire situation to beat the Sky Tower unfortunately. Also, I don't think Tridel cares so much about the height debate here given the myriad of financial troubles faced. I'm sure they want to complete the building ASAP.

Besides we'd need atleast a 44m tall spire to beat Sky. Too tall IMO to not have planned from the get-go because of the physics involved.
 
This building would also look absolutely terrible with a spire The crown is perfect I get it there's a lot of people on here that are all about that height but no matter what sky Tower is going to be the tallest for a while and when the markets improved we may see someone try for the 400 m mark though I would be skeptical
 
Here are some shots from today, Tuesday (Oct. 14). Looks like all 8 beams extending the mega-columns for the crown are up... taken from the Wallace pedestrian bridge, and from Bloor and Dundas.
