One comment on teen/student fares: I had my kids' Presto cards on my account, and set to refill with autoload. They were not paying, so I have no reason to think they would not have tapped every time they rode the TTC. I could look up their ride history of I had wanted to.

Yes there is no requirement for autoload to be set up on a Presto card, but it was so much more convenient than being asked to refill their cards all the time. I imagine most of not all teens have their fares paid for by their parents.

Anyway, the discussion seems to have moved on from this

Yes I did, but it's quite a leap to go from that to "they made me do it". Someone skipping fares because they're upset about others legally riding free implies they themselves made the conscious choice to, not that anyone else made them.

1) It's ridiculous to call people who the TTC has officially granted free or reduced fares to as "freeloaders"
2) Whatever other upsides or drawbacks the free/reduced fares may have, framing it as a problem because other people may feel jealous of the privileged groups and will start fare beating in turn, is also ridiculous. Maybe all privileges and good things anyone has should be taken away, so that those who are jealous don't start misbehaving?

Yes. The VISION display shows them headway deviation, as well as the actual times to the vehicle ahead and vehicle behind.

My father did care that people were not paying at first then when his superiors stopped supporting his efforts to enforce the fares he gave up caring.

He used to park the bus until someone paid and call for a supervisor. He even publicly shamed a few people until they did as well.

When he retired, they told him to carry on driving as it was not worth the hassle.

My grandfather drove a double decker AEC Routemaster from the end of WW2 until he retired in the 1980s. I remember as a lad the conductor in the back would make sure everyone paid. Really, a return to two personnel vehicles is the only sure way to prevent fare evasion.

You may be onto something, and there's not a single yes or no answer, it depends on a case-by-case basis, I'll just leave it at that (though you could definitely make a case out of it when it comes to historic vehicles).

I'm sure it could be. But I wouldn't be surprised if this is cheaper, and a more efficient use of time.

Let's if the the HCRR puts in the lowest bid. Are they on the list of takers?

By "cheapest", you mean the least qualified and with little or no experience. One reason for the lateness of projects being done by the "cheapest".
