Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

If you love people living in every park in the city, John Tory is your man. Your property taxes will be low!
My taxes are now over 20% higher than under Tory, and we still have people squatting and shooting up in our parks. George Hislop Park, re-opened during Chow’s first term, and already looks like a mini-Tenderloin. I expect that by the end of Chow’s 2nd term in 2031 my property taxes will be 50% higher than they were when Tory resigned in 2023 and yet our parks and public spaces will still be occupied by squatters and addicts, our subways will still suffering under beggars, NCR violence and fare evaders. More tax revenue may grow the size of government, but it does not always equal results. And yet she’s still our best hope, so she gets my vote. My future self may read this and exclaim, you idiot.

Chow's tenure is still pretty short, but there has been improvements in many ways. I think park encampments are significantly down from the days when we had the huge ones in Trinity Bellwoods, Allen Gardens and Clarence Square. One thing that is undeniable is the long decline of many public services and spaces in Toronto under John Tory. Sure, there was the pandemic, which obviously presented many challenges, but the stubborn refusal to allow property taxes to keep up even with population growth meant years of stagnation.

It's more the power imbalance when dating a staffer, especially one so much younger. It's extremely poor judgement.

Add in (as others have mentioned) the general stagnation of the city due to low taxes and a perpetual search for efficiencies and Tory is a never again for me.

Edit: spelling

That's what you get when you vote conservative. Low taxes and spending cuts.

Honestly, Olivia Chow would not be so bad if she raised taxes and cut all the wasteful spending. I get that some areas of the city have their own special pet projects but there are bigger fish to fry.

What we really need is to cut all the special interest projects and focus on bigger things like Roads, Transit and Infrastructure. Who cares about reports and studys or naming something after someone who died decades ago.

If she actually focused spending on what mattered to people, not just special interest groups people would be alot happier.

Just be prepared for when she recommends you invest in bitcoin. The first taste is always free.

Thanks Admiral.

She's living in Toronto and works as a travel agent. She's also working hard to build a life here without help from others.

All things considered I may have pulled off a miracle worthy of song.

I've known her since she moved here in 2021.

Don’t forget her spending millions on renaming Dundas square without any public consultations when the streets are still full of homeless drug addicts.

The naming process started under Tory.

Doesn’t change the fact she chose to fastrack the change and spend millions on it without public consultations while the city had a housing and drug crisis.

Good for her! My most recent partner was also 11 years younger than me (not 30+, lol), but she didn't bring much to the table - I guess predictably it ended disastrously. At least I got my loving son out of that ordeal!

3 speed cameras down overnight. Doug Ford has now hardened his stance on speed cameras and basically threatens getting involved through legislation.

“They should take out those cameras, all of them,” Ford said. “This is nothing but a tax grab.”

“I’ve driven by speed traps not even close to school areas,” the premier said Tuesday.

“Some people driving through a neighbourhood and they are five, 10 kilometres over, they are getting nailed. It’s not fair. So, I’m dead against this photo radar that they have.”

“Hopefully the cities will get rid of them… or I’m going to help them get rid of them very shortly,” Ford said.

“Get rid of the speed cameras or I’m going to do it for them,” Ford said in a warning to municipalities.
