Niagara Falls Marineland | ?m | ?s

While I broadly agree, I do get the impulse, which is not dis similar to Vegas adding sports teams, or more 'family friendly' stuff....

Its the idea of being a well-rounded destination, by which they mean, something for everyone; and also an ability to some degree to even out demand through the year. (though more outdoor attractions in our climate would not be the logical answer on that front).

****

On amusement parks, its worth noting that on our side of the border you have Canada's Wonderland, and really, Marineland was the distant second (more like sixth, with the intermediate entries missing, but I digress)...

Where the U.S. side, with a considerably smaller population has Six Flags Darien Lake as its Wonderland counterpart, and then 'Fantasy Island' as much smaller secondary park.

There is almost certainly room for a second, lesser theme park in the GTA. Whether or not it should be sited in Niagara is a different question.
I would wager it ought to be on the western side of the GGH in any case. Whether that’s Niagara or not is up to the private sector, and if they see benefits in agglomerating with the existing entertainment industry there. If they don’t, then they’d likely want something much closer. The west side grants you the lions share of the GTA population, and of the cities further west. For this, (short of Niagara) Milton seems like a viable location if you wanted to capture as large a catchment as possible without alienating too many cities.

I really can't see anything exciting happening here, like a new theme park or indoor waterpark/resort. It's probably going to get re-developed into self storage units and piles of dirt for the next decade

Is there a need for housing in Niagara Falls? I believe that the Niagara region is growing with new residents.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a European style water based mega-resort.

If Universal can build Universal Studios United Kingdom, and the climate of England isn’t exactly optimal for very large theme parks, then having Universal Studios Canada on former Marineland grounds would be feasible:

The market is here it exists, Canadas Wonderland is land locked and just about out of room unless they decide to consolidate all their parking into a tall parking garage or underground parking and utilize their massive parking lot for more rides and the park is always at max capacity with many complaints of overcrowding and too long of waits for the rides. People would not just love an alternative park but we need a second major park in this province! There is more than enough population and tourists to support a second full size park. We just need the right people to take over this property which rivals Disney in size. Competition is also a good thing.

There may well be another amusement park of significance in the offing...........but....

Just for the record.....Canada's Wonderland will be growing significantly and yes, at least some of the parking will be displaced in the process.

They've been dithering on putting out the details, but I think the full plans might be public this summer...... (or not) LOL

So, NF approved the severance..... such an odd thing, I'm not sure why the severance is needed for financing purposes.....

Particularly since NF says they will then re-merge the properties after the animals are removed......

Perhaps one of our UT experts can shed light on this choice.

There are some conditions attached to the severance...

I assume lenders wanted nothing to do with the animals, animal welfare crusaders, and potential fines related to animal welfare, and this was an easy way to provide them with assurance.
