    VIA Rail in Mississauga

I imagine it's either a league sponsor or a St. Mikes sponsor, as it's related to the horn they blow when the Majors score (heard that 7 times on Friday ;) ). ... although it could be attached to the arena, I dunno.

Timothy's on Avenue Rd - Closed

The one at NYCC / 5160 Yonge closed as well last summer/fall. (Starbucks and Second Cup are doing quite well in the same market.)

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

Steve Munro has the 1968 study linked in this post: http://stevemunro.ca/?p=1625

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

 As if anyone will ever get a seat south of Eglinton during rush hour. Seriously. That said, I'm not looking to relieve Queen with the DRL, I'm just willing to entertain lines as far north as that. The more I think of it, the more I come to the conclusion that King is the...

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

There was a bunch of discussion about Portlands development demand, which I must've conflated with the alignment discussion here. (pages 9-10 or thereabouts)

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

Yes, I saw that post, and it's spot on except that it doesn't account for decisions based on rider comfort. When I lived at Lawrence and Yonge and went to uni downtown, I'd take the bus because I'd get a seat all the way downtown; it added 10 minutes overall to the ride, but I didn't sweat in...

Thornhill - Yonge to become people place

To be fair to Richmond Hill, they've been busy getting rid of the seedier stuff in the downtown and the RH Centre for the Performing Arts opens next Saturday. It has potential to be pedestrian friendly, and has improved a lot over the last few years. Kleinburg it ain't, but it ain't bad...

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

Absolutely. My thinking about Queen goes like this: I imagine, first off, that the city ends at Front. :D Second, I look at King and Bay as the epicentre of the crowd taking the subway to downtown. I figure, if they're willing to walk from King, Union or St Andrew, they'd be...

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

Go back, read your post here (which I quoted to start this little divertement) and then make your claim about me singling people out. Perhaps this belongs in PMs?

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

I don't think the data support that the DRL will connect anywhere near where Queen ridership originates. http://stevemunro.ca/?p=1817

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

Perhaps not what you actually meant, but given that you only mentioned consultants et al when speaking of waste (twice now), it's hard for the casual observer to not make the connection -> "consultants = baaaad". :D I mean, why not say "money is wasted by everyone working on the bloated...

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

So many stations in the east would seem, to me anyway, to kill the whole political motivation for putting this line in early - ie providing a tangible relief to the Y-B station. (Too many stations = slow ride) I also think that Union or south is wrong, but I'm sure keithz will eventually...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

$75m strikes me as way too little, given that the cost of West Toronto Diamond rail/rail separation will be significantly higher than that amount (not including advance utilities works). ... and the penny drops; they actually don't have a clue how much it will cost yet.

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

Were you to bother reading Railization's post, you'd see that he's not grafting Queen streetcar relief onto the DRL, and he recognizes that King's relief is essential to the package - but what he's saying (and I concur) is that Union or points south do nothing to relieve congestion as it now...
