They do have larger stop spacing but I would have to disagree on "less intersections". I dont have any hard numbers but just looking at it aerially i find that those trams handle a lot of intersections. Just some samples.
At no point would I describe any section of the Munich tram system as...
I am aware who Reece is, and I don't really see how this matters, unless the argument is, well he thought Eglinton was going to be overcapacity so his opinion is actually less than meaningless.
Please refer to my previous post. I am not rewriting that
I am unsure where you got this assumption...
With all due respect, I do disagree with your interpretation of this passage.
I interpreted this passage to say, "Supposing we ran the TTC Streetcars as fast as Munich does," not "This plan would make streetcars as fast as Munich." This is why they end with "We may not reach those levels...
Perhaps one of the benefits of the "auto lobby" is that they have kind of shown us how you can just like, not be insane about safety by just going "Well you actually can drive on the curbside lane without going 25kmh, 'cause like we already do it?"
To add onto this discussion, as far as I know...
Even crazier is how if you mix up Eglinton / Eg. West, you simply take a short subway ride, but a E/W harbour mix up can put you back like 2 hours if done incorrectly
That being said, it is a step in the right direction-- i just wish they committed to the bit.
I think quite reasonably you'd have a streetcar replacing the downtown segment to WH and a bus for the upwards segment- if a downtown OL substitution is required at all as opposed to just running more streetcars on existing routes and on 2+1.
The biggest users of a bustitution would be local...
As far as I am aware it does not have a crossover. The crossover was specifically built at Laird because it was the end of the underground segment. The Ontario line was not in the picture when they thought of this.
About that analysis.
I compared real case I had with 3 ideal cases.
1. No red light or red clipping (Slow for red but turns green before stop)
2. Same as 1, with no intersection speed restriction (Remove all slowdowns crossing green intersections)
3. Same as 2, with the untimely demise of...
As far as I am aware Nippon Sharyo, the DMU manufacturers for the UPX, have left the NA market. Any new stock would have to be new stock, with the normal lead times for acquiring and training.
From what the previous Trillium leak for MX stated, MX/Ontario is trying to coax manufacturers to build...
Interesting to me:
- 5 years only. Usually with these stuffs I see much longer contracts.
- This works out to 260 million per year for O&M. This feels low to me, given in 2025 Metrolinx paid out 600 mil. in Operations and 150 mil. in Equipment Maintainence... I wonder if the discrepancy is...
This is not a serious issue for catenary installation. Catenary may only interfere with oversize loads. The freight companies can still absolutely run normal load freight trains under catenary.
They may oppose it when its on their own tracks because it would be more trouble than benefit for...
This was a subway from the 1960s and the platform screen doors were installed at 2.5 million cad per station. I have been RELIABLY INFORMED by people on the internet that this is simply not possible and must cost at LEAST 50 million per station.
The former. MX is both adverse to collisions, and adverse to causing traffic disruption. 3 minute headways both ways can be tolerated on a street with very little traffic, but across bigger secondary or primary roads during rush hour could cause problems with backup and traffic.
MX thankfully...
I diverted my commute one hour and have taken my very first ride on 6 FW leaving Humber 12:02 EB, arrive 12:40
*Update: Turns out I lost less time than I would have if I took my usual commute, given Lakeshore West had a serious incident causing significant delays.
Will do some more analysis...
