The AGO FB page posted these just now. I had no idea of this brick facade.

The Louvre, like all classical architecture, has a clear hierarchy in design language from base to roof, and it has only one mullion design. It's not all over the place like this one.

At least 9 or 10 different window styles on the same building...

Good that they kept the mullions of the original design, it seemed like they were just going to put plain picture windows based on what looked like a test piece from a few pages back: The mullions help to break up the squareness of the windows.

These are called clinker bricks, once an accidental by-product of brickmaking but later used as an architectural statement.

The facade design looks pretty good. I don't really see an issue with shallow retail units, if they are done right they can have a boutique feel.

The curvilinear roof would make a great counterpoint to the angular highrises behind it.

That's almost 1960s level desecration of this historic building. And it's already falling apart, look at that corner damage revealing the styrofoam.

I like the distinct layers of history with each addition, at least 4 eras now visible.

Design by spreadsheet. And people wonder why there's no "beautiful architecture" anymore. It was never the modernists to blame, but instead the cultural acceptance of cheapness and good-enoughism.

Looks good. Big improvement on the existing Church frontage. I appreciate them preserving the old brick apartment facade.

The removal of the surface parking lot is a big factor, will be a win for pedestrians in any case.
