This bid/contract includes the rehabilitation of COLBOURNE STREET and LEADER LANE - finally. Work partly paid by Google Building developers plus Section 37$$$ plus BIA $$$

This email provides you with a progress update on the King/Church construction work.

Work is progressing well at the King Street and Church Street intersection.



Work completed this week:
• Completed permanent water service connections to properties.
• TTC completed setting streetcar rails.

• Crews commenced pouring top layer of concrete for TTC streetcar rails.


Over the weekend:
• Hydro work and concrete curing

Looking ahead to next week:

• Complete road base work and restoration.

• Sidewalk reconstruction.



As part of the sidewalk reconstruction work, certain corners will be temporarily closed next week to allow for safe and efficient construction activities.



Sidewalk Closure Schedule at King and Church intersection:​

• Starting August 11th at 7am for up to 24hrs: Northwest and Southeast corners.
• Starting August 12th at 7am for up to 24hrs: Southwest and Northeast corners.
• Starting August 13th at 7am for up to 24hrs: Southwest corner.

Please use alternate routes where possible and follow posted signage for pedestrian detours.



The project is on track for reopening of the intersection in mid August.

La Maquette on King Street was in a City owned building and, when the restaurant closed, the City leased it to the Berkeley Church folk as event space, The BC guys went bankrupt so i assume the lease has returned to the City but the space is still boarded up and empty. It is a great restaurant location with a patio that 'flows' into the Sculpture Garden - it REALLY should be leased and open again. I assume it is managed by Corporate Real Estate Services and their record of managing 'commercial properties; - e,g. St lawrence Market complex, is not great.

Yes, both (and St Lawrence Hall) are similar spaces that REALLY need to be managed by a group who understand and have expertise in retail leasing (and historic buildings). CREM does not seem to have these skills and it is frankly very weird to only now be looking for tenants of North Market on Sundays. The opening was hardly a surprise!

My observations of the St. Lawrence Market area over the last 7 days.

They are back! Re-work on Wellington St. E. between Church and Scott.

Hopefully they are done in the tent.

Coming to the hood. (Former Tilted Kilt/Shoeless Joe’s on The Esplanade)

The good news. The 2 Church St. west half of the Green P parking garage is almost finished but not open yet.

The bad news; the East half of the Green P parking garage will be closed next. (August start?) The east section was newer pre cast concrete vintage compared to the West half. I wonder how they repair that? I thought it was in good/better shape.

Still a work in progresssssssss outside Metro/Hot House on Wellington. St. E.
Toronto Hydro vault repair taking up a large space now. 1 year or longer? Probably just waiting for an off season shutdown at this point. October is my guess? Thanksgiving?

Wider sidewalk canopies are overrated. My fair weather dog on Front St. E. One can only walk around Winners for so long.

I really should map out and label all these tiles below
The constant 25 year work and rework or new work or make work project from Meridian Hall/Clifford Masonry.

I wonder what their thought process was on replacements?
Why do they need repairs so often? Trucks/E Bikes ? Heaving? Joint failure/drainage/frost? Installation? Dog (or other) urine? High heals? Subway/street car vibration? Earthquakes?
I will try to find a before picture.

I should have applied for the Queens Quay “Neighbourhood inspector” job that was posted a number of years ago to provide daily inspections to remove posters/ minor garbage and report any items back to the City for “action”. Lola might like too.

Great panorama! The work on Wellington is 'warranty repairs' by Sanscon.

The constant minor repairs (and re-repairs) to the paving at the Meridian Hall are very odd - when they did the more major work external work there a decade or so ago, the tiles were seen as 'historic' and as many as possible were re-used but they do seem to be back at them almost constantly!

This stretch of Front St E on the southside is very narrow with the trees and can get crowded. My solution, as always, is to build the sidewalk out and replace the on-street parking.

I would say the same thing about George and Frederick as well, the former of which is currently being rebuilt (again) with no changes to road diet.

I agree......and am working on the issue. Nothing happening imminently I'm afraid, but I'm fairly hopeful in the medium term.

Not sure I agree about Front though there are plans for an upgrade - narrower lanes I think - when that block gets a new watermain (and sewer?) in a couple of years but it IS stupid that the City have just repaved George from King to Adelaide without actually redesigning the street. The BIA has a streetscape plan that includes narrowing the street (with input and $$ from George Brown) to create a much better pedestrian experience. Now it has been repaved I suspect this will not happen for decades!

From everything I have seen, there were no streetcar tracks on George south of Front, I suspect this is Lower Sherbourne where there certainly was large TTC yard on the west side adjacent to what is now the Young People's Theatre. I think the photo is looking down Lower Sherbourne towards The Esplanade

This building was on SE corner of Lower Sherbourne and The Esplanade )later painted purple and known around here as The Purple Building)> I think it is the building showing in your photo too - with its roof flattened out..
