My understanding is this may be one of the deepest excavations ever in Toronto. There are 8 levels of underground parking planned. The TTC also played a major role due to the proximety of the subway tunnel. The TTC set a criteria that underground vibrations and movement must ensure the tunel doesn't move more then 10 millimeters. The developer spent six to eight months working with various consultants and soil engineers in their efforts to create some distance from the tunnel and satisfying the engineering criteria. The TTC only recently signed off.

Yep. Can't wait to see it complete though. With this, RBC, and the Ritz Carlton, our skyline will be really starting to extend west.

And with the addition of 300 Front, and the forest of 25 to 50 storey condos planned for the Clubland area, the 'highrise district' will extend to Spadina and beyond, north of the railway (as well as with CityPlace south of the railway).

p.s. With the exotic designs being proposed for many of the future condo buildings in the area, is a name change from Clubland to Dubailand in order?

These ones come to mind:

These may not be terribly exotic by world standards, but by our staid Toronto standards, they are definitely out there.

In addition, a few other condo building designs that do not yet have public renderings, but only planning report line drawings, also look fairly gaudy.

Any idea how long excavation will take?

From working on a similar sized lot....6 weeks/level for excavation + 6 weeks/level pouring the concrete going back up again. This all depends on soil conditions and a whole range of other issues, but going down 8 levels will likely take one year, and another to get back up to street level.
