Construction continues at The Residences at Central Park, with two tower cranes now standing at opposite ends of the 12-acre site. This follows UrbanToronto’s aerial drone tour in April, 2024, which captured a single crane and early stages of sub-grade construction. Work has notably advanced, especially at the northern end of the site, where the foundation for the first phase is being laid.

Designed by Core Architects for Amexon Development Corporation, The Residences at Central Park is a master-planned community bringing together residential, commercial, and public spaces. Situated at Leslie Street and Sheppard Avenue East, Central Park will combine urban living with lush greenery, anchored by its proximity to the East Don Parkland. It will offer views of the surrounding natural landscape along with the Leslie subway and Oriole GO station entrances at the south end of the site.

At the south end of the site stands the first tower crane, erected in the spring. Below it, the excavation pit is accessible via a dirt ramp at the south elevation, surrounded by a shoring system reinforced with tiebacks to ensure stability. Red and yellow excavators are visible near the base of the ramp, to the left of the tower crane. Closer to the centre of the site, wooden formwork is in place, ready for upcoming concrete pours. Meanwhile, the award-winning sales pavilion, featuring a modern design with expansive glass panels and white framing, stands to the right.

Pivoting to an eastern view, we focus on the tiered excavation process for the upcoming high-rises. In the top right corner, the counterweight of the newly installed tower crane is just visible. The excavation site displays a tiered layout, with the deepest point at the southern end, progressively stepping up to the north. This gradient signifies different stages of sub-grade work — more advanced towards the north end, with the centre of the image being where the 31-storey glass tower of the first phase will rise.

In the central raised area, preparations for its foundation are seen, and to its right will be the Central Park Common, a planned expanse of green space. The less developed southern end, still in the early stages of sub-grade work, will eventually accommodate the second phase of the project, including a 19-storey and two additional 31-storey towers.

At the north end of the site, we look east to the second tower crane installed in the summer, situated close to the shoring wall of the north elevation. It will support the development of the 12-storey residential mid-rise and two commercial buildings planned at this end. Surrounding the crane is a prepared area of formwork, with vertical rebar to the right. To the left, two concrete buckets are seen at grade, ready for concrete pours.

Phases one and two will be connected by a pedestrian tunnel, allowing residents to move about regardless of the weather. The East Don parkland and its ravine system seen in the background reflect Amexon’s aim of providing urban living with accessible natural green spaces, with careful measures such as tree protection zones put in place.

The Residences at Central Park will feature five residential towers ranging in height from 46.50m to 105.90m. In total, they will house 1,478 residential units, all within walking distance of the Leslie subway and Oriole GO stations.

UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below. If you'd like, you can join in on the conversation in the associated Project Forum thread or leave a comment in the space provided on this page.
