From Oakville to the heart of Downtown Toronto and beyond to the north and east, Mattamy Homes is helping to shape the GTA landscape through new homes for people in a variety of types and settings. In the city’s West End at Bloor and Indian Road, Mattamy is making strides in the construction of Westbend Residences, where work is currently focused on the below-grade levels. Designed by BDP Quadrangle, this 13-storey mixed-use development will feature 174 residential suites and ground-floor retail spaces.

Since UrbanToronto's last update on the site a year ago, work has progressed from shoring to the formation of the garage, all happening just steps from Keele station on the Bloor Line 2 subway. Following the completion of extensive excavation and levelling operations and installation of the tower crane in March, 2024, the work has shifted to the development’s four levels of underground parking, with the structures now rising from the depths, marked in the image below by conduits lying amidst steel reinforcement rods, or rebar, and wooden formwork, all surrounding the tower crane.

There's plenty of work still to come, but once complete and occupied, Westbend residents will be greeted by chic and comfortable interiors featuring textured furnishings, warm natural materials, and ceramic details. Communal spaces have been designed for residents variously looking to work, socialize, or simply seek a moment of solitude in comfort. The co-working lounge, designed for the modern professional and hybrid work environment, is to be equipped with all the essentials for a home office, design studio, or collaboration pod. Adjacent to this is the social lounge, a stylish area ideal for casual meetings.

The building will boast a state-of-the-art fitness centre and a dedicated yoga studio. The rooftop is to be home to social and entertainment lounges, both offering stunning views of Lake Ontario, High Park, and the Toronto skyline. The expansive terrace further enhances the rooftop experience, featuring an outdoor lounge and dining space complete with barbecues for alfresco dining, a secluded meditation deck for moments of tranquillity, and a community games area for leisure and recreation.

Each residential suite at Westbend will feature open-plan layouts, with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the interiors with natural light and extend the living areas to spacious balconies. The kitchens showcase sleek designer-selected cabinetry, high-end stainless-steel appliances, and elegant quartz countertops.

Mattamy is taking a pioneering approach to sustainable living with a geothermal heating and cooling system at Westbend Residences. Early during construction, the development team drilled boreholes reaching depths of approximately 275m, installing extensive piping to tap into the earth's constant underground temperature. This system will provide a stable and sustainable energy source for both suites and common areas.

The external expression of Westbend Residences will feature brick, metal framing, and striking copper accents that reflect the character of its Bloor West neighbourhood. The inclusion of three retail units within the development enhances street-level activity. Westbend's location is well-connected, with a short walk to Bloor GO and UP Express station making access to Downtown and the airport easy, while Keele and Dundas West stations on Bloor Line 2 provide quick connections across the city.

The proximity to various parks like Campbell Park, Dufferin Grove Park, Sorauren Avenue Park, and the West Toronto Railpath provides ample outdoor spaces for recreation and leisure, but the crown jewel is just steps to the west: High Park offers a giant tranquil retreat, wile plenty of sports and cultural opportunities abound. Meanwhile, the streets surrounding Westbend Residences buzz with a variety of trendy independent stores, cozy cafes, and diverse restaurants offering multicultural delicacies.
