A few blocks southeast of Yonge and Eglinton in Midtown Toronto, a condominium development's unconventional design is coming together at the northeast corner of Lillian and Soudan. Topped out at 19 storeys earlier this year, Distinction Condos from Lash Group Of Companies is beginning to express its name as finishing touches start to reveal the design by Giannone Petricone Associates.

Now at its full 53-metre height, the crane is down and the tower's unique faceted massing is in the process of being accentuated by the addition of exterior finishes. Cladding installation has been underway for several months, with a mix of window wall cladding with reflective glazing and grey spandrel framed in dark mullions reaching as high as the eighth floor at the time of our last update back in January.

The finishes now rise to the uppermost residential level, and are being joined by new details closer to street level. At the tower base, panels of dark brick form the podium, while the first two tower levels above now sport balconies finished in perforated metal screens with bone white finishes and laminated clear glazing, arranged in an angular pattern.

Once completed later this year, the project will introduce 160 condominium units to the southern border of the Yonge-Eglinton area, where remaining single family homes along the north side of Soudan Avenue—like the ones that existed on Distinction's current footprint—are being quickly replaced with higher-density residential developments.
