Plans for soaring buildings are beginning to spread to the blocks northwest of Markham's emerging Downtown. The upcoming closure of Buttonville Airport is bringing a wave of new developments that are higher than what has been allowed until now in the area west of Warden Avenue and south of Highway 7. The fourth and newest phase of Times Group Corporation's Uptown Markham community is an example; dubbed Riverview Condos, the Kirkor Architects-designed complex will consist of three towers with heights of 41, 41, and 22 storeys.
The first set of 346 units on offer range in area from 579 ft² up to 2,360 ft², with prices starting from the high $400,000s. Units at Riverview will feature open-concept floorplans featuring gourmet kitchens with custom-designed deep upper cabinetry, granite countertops, under mounted stainless-steel kitchen sinks, ceramic tile backsplash, and under-cabinet valance lighting. Other features and finishes include 10’ ceiling heights, laminate flooring, and engineered quartz stone windowsills.
Following the trend of new developments implementing in-suite technology to improve residents' experience, the project will offer in-suite Wall Pad Home Connect systems allowing residents to see and speak to guests arriving at the front door, or connect with the building's concierge. The smart suite system also lets residents control suite temperature from their smartphones, as well as receiving news, weather, and building updates.
Residents of the project will have access to a three tier amenity pavilion with spaces appointed by interior designers Tomas Pearce. Amenities include a rooftop terrace, a fitness facility with adjoining his/hers changing rooms, saunas, a yoga studio, an indoor swimming pool, a multipurpose space featuring a bar and fireside seating, a dining area and catering kitchen, a library, party room, and a ping pong and billiards room.
A number of energy efficiency features are planned, maintaining the Uptown Markham community's status as Ontario’s first LEED-certified privately-owned residential high-rise development. Some of these include Energy Star® appliance packages for suites, thermally insulated Low-E Argon-filled and double-glazed windows, an Energy Recovery Ventilator, and a 4-pipe HVAC fan coil system for year-round self-controlled heating and cooling.
