With the ground floor’s structure now poured, the construction of Thompsons Residences at 621 King Street West is proceeding with gusto as crews shift their energy to the lower storeys. While it is quite difficult to picture it now, Thompson Residences, developed by Freed Developments and designed by Montreal-based Saucier + Perrotte, will rise 15 storeys and have a unique drawer-front design, with the façade in a constant flux of push-pull, creating wonderful viewing piers and sunken balconies in the process. It is hard to quell the feeling that Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67 had an influence upon the Thompson Residence’s design. Though more restrained and regular in composition than Habitat, Thompson Residences should provide similar excitement for its neighbourhood.

The pairing of elegantly designed living spaces with opulent amenities—like a rooftop skybar/lounge with one of North America’s longest infinity pools—paired with first-class services, Thompson Residences are set to be the pinnacle of hotel-inspired living in downtown Toronto.

The completion of Thompson Residences is being eagerly awaited by many, and once finished it is destined to be quite the addition to a neighbourhood occupied with heritage buildings. We'll keep an eye on this project as it continues to grow over the while.
