Over the last week UrbanToronto shutterbugs AndroidUK and Jasonzed both dropped by the site of Milan Residences, a new 37-storey tower at the top of Church Street where it meets Davenport Road at Yonge Street. Developed by the Conservatory Group, the EI Richmond Architects-designed modern glass and steel point tower rises closest to Yonge, while an 8-storey podium which will line Church.
Situated beside one of the Yonge subway line's open cuts, work on the project was delayed for several months while the builder worked out details required to keep the subway safe during the excavation and construction process. Excavation is moving at full speed now, and these shots give you an idea of progress.
So that's the pit and its surroundings. What's the project going to look like when they're done? From the west, this:
The "back" of Milan, from above the Rosedale Ravine to the northeast, will look like this:
Let's drop down a bit for a view of the building from the subway. Note the horizontally banded cladding on the parking garage, hiding it from view behind narrow slot windows. It's a pretty cool look.
Meanwhile, up on Church Street, Milan meets the sidewalk like this:
Residents at Milan will have access to the Milan Club, a recreation and entertainment facility located on three floors, including the roof of the podium. Let's tour around a few of the club's facilities.

So that's a quick look at what we can expect to rise from the put at Yonge and Church. What do you think of the project? Leave a comment here, or join in the discussion in UrbanToronto's thread fro the project by clicking on the link below.
