YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Should be the next 7 to 10 months. 18 Bur Oak doesn't even run on Sunday. That's ridiculous. That never happens in Oakville, Burlington, Whitby/Oshawa or Hamilton. The 56 Gorham Eagle in Newmarket is the same. YRT needs to be brought in line now with the rest of the GTHA. There would be outrage if Brampton had the same schedules as YRT.

The 18 Bur Oak doesn't even run midday, it's some dial a ride thing. And not just Sunday, no Saturday service either.

Ya it's basically overflow for the left turn lane
The line markings don't make sense then. It can only be entered from the bus lane, and you can never leave! I'd think that the left-hand of that lane would (should!) have a solid white lane, while the right side should be dashed so people can enter that lane earlier.

Its a shame that GO buses that run through York Region are way more reliable and convenient for the most part. The routes running up parallel to the Stouffville line stations in Markham see a much better service pattern overall. If one wanted to get from Unionville to Markham Stouffville hospital, taking 52/56 GO buses would get you there faster (despite a little bit of a walk from Cornell), compared to Viva Purple, which doesn't even go into Unionville to begin with. Its nice that GO made their service return to Wonderland or now Major Mac West Terminal because this helps people get connected from all around YR better than the local service itself. I think YRT is focusing a little too much on the Jane and Yonge corridors, and not on anything else that desperately needs service.

Yeah, it's brutal how bad YRT is now, of course it was never good, but the local service is pitiful. Once upon a time 15 mins was supposed to be the minimum service level for Viva, and now we have all these fancy lanes and bus stops built with mediocre service levels. GO sucks too but at least they haven't gotten to such lows.

Its something that I'll never understand. Give Brampton the same bus lane infrastructure on Queen or Steeles, or Dundas in Mississauga and you'll see they'll run LAPS in comparison. The transitway in Sauga we know it isn't the best use of BRT but they run 10x more frequently than any Viva corridor does because they realize its still a *BRT* corridor.

Wishing that someone at YRT has some sense to start pushing on the Highway 7 western Extension to Highway 50. Or extend Viva Orange there in the meantime, and not just wait on Brampton to go through with the Queen BRT to do it. There’s become so much demand at The Gore Rd the Zum buses get overstuffed to the max when it hits the stops there. It’s also on Brampton as well as they don’t have all day York U service to help relieve the area and Highway 7, but if Viva Orange just went there right now it would help demand massively.

@anb get together (IRL or Virtually) with a couple of other York Region members and push the York Region Chair and Council on the subject of better YRT service.

There's no sense arguing to YRT itself, as its the pols who determine their budget.

PS there was a presentation last week to the YRRTC Board on this very subject (BRT)

Don't just email everyone, target those who might be interested in your argument because it affects their constituents. Don't send form letters, everyone write their own thing (form letters go in the blue box)

2023-2051?

I love how they write "2023" as Viva Silver/Green have any chance of opening this year. (Prove me wrong YRT)

Join @anb 's club; talk directly to the powers that decide what YRT does. You now have their names, titles and email addresses all conveniently laid out in one spot for you!

This is very informative and will try my best to get to them. Thank you so much.

On a more negative note the repaving of the hwy 7 rapidways is STILL STAGNANT. I understand if they want concrete to cure for a week or but it's almost 2 months since workers were last there. At the same time period they could pour at least 20 storeys worth of condo floors. There's a serious problem with the construction management. There's no way they can't source concrete in 2 months if they're short. There's hundreds of condos going up in the gta at the same time so surely they can grab some. If it's cre scheduling that is the issue they are seriously incompetent at tinkering with scheduling to prioritize this work.

It's looking seriously like another case of ML or YRT project mismanagement unsurprisingly

So it's June and STILL no construction crews to repave the platforms.... seriously what is going on? In fact it looks like they gave up on the job... the construction cones have been removed. Did the contractor go bankrupt or was fired??
