I live in Cabbagetown. I am English-born. I like English beer. There, that's my story....

I can't find a pub anywhere in my area that serves English beer. If you ask for English beer at said pubs, they offer Guinness, Killkenny or Murphy's.... all of which are Irish. This is akin to telling a Portuguese that he's a Spaniard.

Where is my Boddingtons, Double Diamond and Tetleys? The Old York Fish and Chips chain used to have Boddingtons on tape, but that's not downtown east regardless. The House on Parliament has Fuller's http://www.houseonparliament.com/beers.html, so that's thankfully one spot, but after the move and reno it's lost its pub feel and feels more like a Yorkville highbrow than a proper pub. I wonder what the Ben Wicks has?

Where is my English beer on tap? And forget about it in a can, I can go to the LCBO and buy it myself there.

And yes I know that most of the English beer is now owned by foreign firms, making one question what is English anymore.... but I want my English beer on tap at a pub in downtown east.

i believe Carlsberg bought Double Diamond a few years back and stopped making it. Not in your area, but The Village Idiot across from the AGO has Boddingtons on tap as well as Bass ale.

Microbrews are all the rage now, i have noticed a lot of the "English Pubs" in Toronto are carrying less imports and more Microbeers.

What? No more Double Diamond? Damn 'twas my fave brew. :(

Damn. It may be available in keg form somewhere http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Diamond_Burton_Pale_Ale

I well remember my evenings with a DD at http://gsacarleton.ca/mikes-place/ in the early 1990s.

I just picked up some Abbot Ale at the LCBO. $2.25, which is cheaper than I bought it for in London. Lovely stuff, and a "Burtonized" ale not unlike DD.

While not Downtown, I've been consistently told that The Only Café at Donlands & Danforth has the best beer selection east of Yonge.

The Only is a fine establishment, but if you're interested in something south of the Danny, try this cool new spot in Little India - it rocks. Was there Saturday night and for a little bar it's got some nice variety in the taps department. It's a welcome change to the area.

Beer Bistro @ King & Yonge has Fullers on tap. on top of that, they have an extensive bottle and can list which a lot of them can't be bought at the LCBO
