First world problems or is it just me? These pics just tell me Toronto is still top in North America if you combine the overall infrastructure to the pedestrian-friendly living.
Even the Gardiner looks pretty well-kept next to what's going on in Montreal

It may not be PC with the younger generation, but cars an important part of this nation's transportation system. We live in a massive country and many of us don't live in cities. Cars are far more of a necessity here than in places like Denmark. Cars, predictably, became a deeply embedded part of our culture. I gave up my car when I moved to downtown Toronto but find the backlash to cars heavy handed and often thoughtless.

I fully support making our cities pedestrian friendly, but at the same time believe that cars shouldn't be demonized. They serve an important function, are in integral part of our culture, and keep rural areas viable. The auto industry remains, by a long shot, Ontario's biggest wealth creator. Cars matter a great deal here.

Except in the context of downtown - cars really aren't a necessity, and even if it is, it doesn't necessarily justify a highway. In any case the issue with the Gardiner is the now dated design - at some point, it might be more cost effective to rebuild than endlessly restore.

I have just re-edited all photos and added 13 more from that day (August 14, 2014). 1 photo was also replaced with a different version. All of the new photos are marked with an asterisk(*).
