Guess what they are doing this morning...

Banks and phone stores… how do we have so many of them, and who is actually going in to them frequently enough!
I am old enough to remember when bank buildings were built as 'statements' and designed as stand-alone and significant buildings. The City is peppered with former bank buildings from this era. Then in the 1970s and 1980s the trend was to close most of these old branches and consolidate them into new and larger 'area branches'. In the early 2000s and 2010s and up to now, the banks are back to re-opening small branches like this one. No doubt the fashion will change again and we will see most of these closed and re-consolidated! I agree it is odd as most seem to be virtually empty, I doubt I have interacted with a teller for at least 10 years.

That said, SEE: https://www.accenture.com/us-en/insights/banking/consumer-study-banking-reignite-human-connections from 2023 where it states " Our survey found that consumers across all generations and nearly all geographies still value physical bank branches in their neighborhoods. This surprising affinity for branches is clear evidence of consumers’ desire to have a personal interaction with their banks.

In addition, more than six in 10 turn to branches to solve specific and complicated problems. Pain points are set to become more acute as the economic impact of the rising cost of living sets in. As consumers navigate those challenges, they will want to have genuine conversations with their banks. Most digital channels today don't offer that."
