Don Roadway...

10/10: For amount of seating.
3/10: For placement (since these benches only exist here (so far).

And another shot of the roadway from Commissioners. This time with no trucks at all to be seen anywhere.

Just back from an inspection and, despite what @GameOnBrad said above, the bike/pedestrian trail on south side of Lake Shore is now open up to east side of Don Roadway. I think it may be getting a top coat of asphalt (maybe in the spring after it can settle a bit more?) but it was open. As Mr Brad reported, work is going on on west side of Don Roadway @ the Don Bridge, the guys seemed happy to see me (or maybe just happy to be working on a Saturday at extra pay?). I cycled south on Don Roadway (still closed to vehicles) and got on Commissioners again. (The bike tracks on both sides of Don Roadway are finished but still fenced off @ Commissioners but road was open.) I also noted that on north side of Lake Shore they have almost finished installing the street lights from bridge to Bouchette Street (I think the section Brad shows as being paved today). There are more light poles going east to Leslie waiting to be installed.

Note: the fencing is still up on the south side at Don Roadway and Commissioners as of this morning. So, you "technically" could go up that trail, from the north end but you "might" be blocked by a closed fence (unless they have now taken it down after I took the pics).

I guess they may have opened the road part of the fence for their vehicles as well based on what @DSCToronto experienced. The signage is still up saying no entry though on the south side. That "we are watching you" security camera signage. 🤷‍♂️

This is coming to Council today https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2025/te/bgrd/backgroundfile-259388.pdf

"Staff are exploring opportunities to construct a temporary multi-use trail in 2026 to re-establish this connection (Don River bridge to Cherry street) in the interim and will report back to City Council with further details, as required"

Fingers crossed. Being able to get downtown without needing to detour down to Commissioners street would save a good chunk of time.

...a bit stroady in the end, but I see the needed reasons behind doing all of this. So about time.

As noted here a while ago, the City has had no plans to continue the improvements to Lake Shore Blvd East from Carlaw (where the current WT project ends) to Leslie - including finishing the removal of the Harbour Lead Line rails from the median. I have drawn this to Councillor Fletcher' attention for several months and am happy to report that she got this amendment approved at Council yesterday. "6. City Council direct the Chief Planner and Executive Director, City Planning, the General Manager, Transportation Services, and the Executive Director, Development Review to report to the Toronto East York Community Council in the first quarter of 2026 on the status of implementation of public realm improvement plans along Lake Shore Boulevard East, between Carlaw Avenue and Leslie Street, including the status of the Transportation Services public messaging sign on Lake Shore Boulevard East, east of Carlaw."

As it looks like the stage is being set for a complete gutting of Canada Post I thought that it is timely to post just how much real estate it has in The Port Lands and along Eastern. I’m not sure if WT/CreateTO contemplated their redevelopment but collectively they will have a major impact on the area. And this is just one part of one city! Start your engines! 🏎️🏁📮
