When this project started the decision on permanent closure of the harbour railway lead line hadn't been made. I'm surprised they didn't come up with a better design to use the space, but I'm sure the placement of the existing Gardiner ramps would have limited the options.
Yes it's much clearer now from this photo. The million dollar question is when will the new ramps and hybrid construction from the Gardiner expwy to the DVP began (and end)? Anybody?
The budget shows substantial completion for the entire Gardiner project (427 all the way to the DVP) in 2030, no money allocated on/after 2031.
* as always these dates are to be taken with a grain of salt. I'm just saying what's written down as of today.
** This project has two major timing asterisks. It is subject to the completion of certain flood protection works for East Harbour, and it is within the Metrolinx Zone of Control for the Ontario Line project. So they effectively have a timing veto.
Let’s hope the 2 brand new footings in the far right of this pic wil be used for the newly rebuilt portion and even more let’s hope they build out the “green section” before they take down the red section but this is Toronto… so they’re probably take it all down first and then put their hands in the air when speaking about firm timelines to put it all back together
Why would there be demand to move into an area in heavy construction for the next decades with no public transportation, no retail, no schools, very limited streets to drive on, etc? Whoever is in charge of all this lower port lands project has no idea what they're doing.They're advertising now the new promenade at East Bay Front and the new section of the park opening next year but how are people supposed to be there with all the construction along Queens Quay E and whatever else they're doing out there?

So in other words we will also be losing this connection because the city is too inept to build the new section first and tear down the existing highway only after the new section has been built. Ugh
If I'm not mistaken the Ontario government not the city of Toronto is now in charge of the finances/building of both the DVP and the Gardiner Express Way.
