Subject Matter: 131 Farnham Ave. (De La Salle College Oaklands)

Lobbyist: Philip A Gillies (Phil Gillies Consulting)

Issue to be Lobbied: De LaSalle (Oaklands) College would like to repurpose its existing hockey arena at 131 Farnham Avenue into a health and wellness centre for the students. An application by a third party for heritage designation must be dealt with in order to proceed.

Notable tidbit of info regarding that arena:

"De La Salle Arena was built in 1966. The arena opened for school use in late November 1966. The official opening took place January 1967 for the students, parents and the De La Salle community. The Toronto Maple Leafs were our official guests during the January opening, that was the last Maple Leaf team to win the Stanley Cup in the spring of 1967."

In a City where it's tough to find rink space for all the teams, dlSalle should have the rink constantly busy (if they don't already) hosting teams from beyond the school. Nice space. Put the health centre somewhere else.

That would be a shame, indeed. This is both one of the coziest (and, incidentally, coldest) rinks in the city.
