Platform screen doors allow the trains to enter and leave stations faster. It also decreases the chances of things or people getting on the tracks and causing delays.

Trams can have platform screen doors as you can see in the Dubai Tram (Alstom Citadis LRV /Alstom’s Urbalis signaling ) and the Lusail Tram (Citadis as well). The former had them on all stations while the latter only has them in underground stations.

Was at Kennedy to transfer to the RT, on the way up there didn't seem to be any sign that there is a Line 5 to transfer to inside the Kennedy station, must have missed it.

On the level between the subway and surface, you can see the new entrance points to Line 5 ... boarded up last time I was there.

Edit: You can see there's two pedestrian walkways from the Line 5 mezzanine level to Line 2, in this animated walkthrough.

The video is a walkthrough from the new western Line 5 entrance, down to the mezzanine, and through the new tunnel to the GO station. It turns to the right to see the tunnels to Line 2 (and 3 LOL)

Hey!! Why are these two trees still here? Weren't they supposed to have been cut years ago? Boy, are they in trouble. How did they miss them? Get someone to cut them down in March. o_O

Tree Removals on Eglinton Avenue West (Highbourne Road to Oriole Parkway) - Early-March 2023

avenue_tree_cutting_0.png

In approximately early-March 2023, crews at Avenue Station will continue construction of the new Eglinton Avenue Streetscape and Cycle Track. To facilitate this work, two (2) trees located on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West, between Highbourne Road and Oriole Parkway, will be removed. The number of trees to be removed is the minimum amount required to safely construct the new streetscape. New trees will be planted in place of the removed trees. This work is expected to take approximately one (1) day.

What to Expect

Removal of two (2) trees on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West, between Highbourne Road and Oriole Parkway. Noise from chainsaws and woodchippers for the removal of trees can be expected.

HOURS OF WORK

• As early as early-March 2023, for approximately one (1) day.

• This work may be rescheduled or delayed due to inclement weather and/or unforeseen circumstances.

• Work may be longer or shorter than expected.

TRAFFIC DETAILS

• No traffic changes are required for this work.

PEDESTRIAN DETAILS

• Temporary pedestrian rerouting may be required while this work takes place.

A baffling project, to be sure. What exactly are they doing that requires these trees to be cut, but then it's okay for new ones to go in the place of the removed trees?

Are platform screen doors even necessary for a project like this? It's not the same as a subway, and trams usually stop much quicker than subways do.
Roughly 100 meter trains deep underground. Just because they look similar to the streetcars doesn't mean that a train of that size will stop on a dime, streetcars don't!

the financial benefits for platform screens doors is to limit the amount of trash and debris that gets on the tracks and damage both the tracks and wheels.
you save more in maintenance than the cost of install platform screen doors
