I noted in January 2025 that the metal fencing had been up for months. I think the wood fencing and permit was shortly after that. February 2025. Excited for a clean look again in this area. They have done a lot work around this building. Lots of roofing and sidewalk/block work restricting access around the building.

The new condo lobby/entrance just east of Metro is done too. Just saw a quick glance of it driving by.

Yes their new front lobby also took MONTHS - looks better but I dread to think what it must have cost them!

When I moved to take a photo of the sign inside, someone who was moving furniture into the building promptly closed the door.

Yes, huge surprise!! Of course, they are not saying anything about the need they will have for branch somewhere in the "St Lawrence Neighbourhood". I am all in favour of this larger District Library but looking at their map of branches, see below, if they close the current branch they will be very "library-poor' in this whole area of the City.

The new location is the BLACK DOT, the current Front Street branch is Xed out.

It is on the sidewalk (and the passageway through the site) not on the road. The condo have been replacing all their brickwork and this was last section and doubtless involved Hydro. I think they started last fall on this area.

The wooden fencing is all gone and they were caulking the joints on Friday. This VERY slow project seems to be over, finally!

Oof yeah, The area is getting pretty dense with all the new condos in the area, so losing the Front street location is going to leave a pretty big gap. Sounds like it'll still be a couple of years away - hopefully they have an alternate plan for a library int he St. Lawrence neighbourhood.

If they have plans they are not public - I fear they are assuming that the new Branch will replace the current one!
 
I got this info forwarded by a neighbour today:

"The construction contract [ for Market Lane Park] has now been awarded, and work has begun on the project. This is contract administration work to prepare for active construction in the park. The David Crombie website is being updated now. The construction contract has been awarded, and work has begun on the project. This is contract administration work to prepare for active construction in the park, as well as the joint project of work on the cycle track and intersection improvements. The construction schedule will be provided soon with respect to the mobilization date in the park and on The Esplanade."

I had hoped we might actually see some ACTION this year on one or both of these VERY slow-moving projects but .....
