Restaurant Comings & Goings

I mean you have Mandarin at Yonge and Eglinton - asian all you can eat buffet with unlimited choice for dessert and salad bar.
Not good enough. The area needs more. Tucker's used to have an amazing salad bar.
As I've mentioned however, the best salad bar was at that restaurant that closed down-used to be just outside Bayview Village mall.
BTW FYI-Mandarin is closing down soon. Condos/new office space are going in on the land... https://storeys.com/oxford-canada-square-development-update/

They did until they were all closed down. I miss having decent buffets but they are likely not profitable anymore. Dinner prices at the Mandarin have skyrocketed recently and it is no longer a viable option for most people.

This is a big no for me personally I never like BK haha... 😂 I rather have Wendy's tbh!

I think Wendy's is the most underrated fast food establishment. I find the burger combo's are so much more filling than McDonald's , A&W, Harvey's, BK. And the burgers come with just the right amount of veggie toppings ( lettuce, tomato, onions & pickles. I would pick Wendy's over a lot of the more expensive "gourmet" burger joints any day.

Yep. Buffets are a thing of the past. Even Vegas casino's are turning buffets into food halls. A decent buffet will run you 50 to 60 bucks per person these days. I remember going to Vegas in 2010, and going to Vegas buffets for $10 to $20!!

The last time I was in Vegas (decades ago), we bemoaned the fact that everything was buffet, and we couldn’t find a decent sit down restaurant.

I for one won’t miss a buffet except for the odd amazing brunch spread.

& it's true. Some people don't want to have to get up when they are in an environment where some of the food is brought to the table.
This is why Boy on a Dolphin (Scarborough) closed. They had an amazing steak menu & AYCE salad bar, but then they had customers that complained about having to get up!
(for the ayce salad bar. Steak was brought to the table)
I'm not one of those people. I still wish Yonge & Eglinton could have an amazing AYCE salad bar, and I'm glad there are friends here and there agreeing with me. Maybe some day soon someone will give it a chance.

Town and Country used to be good as well. If I am not mistaken that was at Markham and Ellesmere but closed in the 1990s.

It’s not so much about getting up as it is about food sitting out on plates for who knows how long, being kept sort of warm, with people mixing up tongs or even using their hands and more. Plus if I am paying that much, I prefer table service.

The Mandarin is currently $36.00 a person before tax, tip and drinks. With 1 pop (no alcohol) for dinner it is $46.33 a person inclusive of tax. Add on another 5 dollars for a tip and that brings you to over $51.00 for one person.

For that money, I would rather go elsewhere.

Yup good restaurant, but across the street Chi Chi's closed down. Someone opened up a buffet there, eating deep into the profits.
The former Chi Chi's building is being torn down to make way for condos now, so I don't count that buffet restaurant as one of the ones gone due to lack of profit.

$37.99 for Mother's day and no rose giveaway or special food promo either. I'm surprised they have to charge so much for nothing special.
pop IS refillable @ the same price it has been for YEARS. $2.50. I can't defend the alcoholic drinks though...they do jack the bill up...select drinks at select times of the year
allow you to take the glass home for keepsake, so that is nice, I suppose.

100% you can spend $50 on a few good dishes elsewhere instead of filling up on chicken balls
Have you ever been there before? I happen to like Mandarin's steak. (to name one good thing)
It's too bad they couldn't continue to offer crab legs or duck, but they do have better things than just those crappy, lack of meat chicken balls.

That's why you go during lunch time! The food is the same and the price is about $27 per person.
