My guess is they didn't want a repeat of the Toronto council backlash.
They know they are fucked now and mostly unelectable.

Just one year after Ontario passed controversial legislation to allow vaping companies to promote their products in public, the government has announced it is banning vaping advertisements in convenience stores and gas stations.

Ford promises Tories will learn from their ‘mistakes’ as legislature resumes
What a difference a five-month break can make. MPPs return to Queen’s Park after the longest recess in a quarter century to a different political landscape in Ontario.www.thestar.com
Spoiler: It won't.
"Learn from their mistakes"? How? If Doug Ford skipped high school classes, how can he "learn" if he skipped the summer at Queen's Park?
I hope we leave the pit bull ban in place.
Thomas Walkom: It’s time to repeal the pit bull ban
The ban, put in place by Dalton McGuinty’s Liberal government in 2005, never made any sense. It fed on hysteria rather than hard evidence. It was an example of political opportunism run amok.www.thestar.com
“It’s not an effective way of dealing with dangerous dogs,” said NDP leader Andrea Horwath earlier this month. It “discriminates against certain dog breeds in the face of scientific evidence,” said Green Leader Mike Schreiner.
This is silly. Dog breeds do not have a right to exist. "Discriminates against" makes it sound like there's an injustice somewhere.
That was my thinking. I expect total dog bites numbers are the same, but the damage may be less.Well, we haven't heard any news of pitbulls chewing some kid's face off of late here in Ontario. Guess it worked.
Just saw on Twitter that Metroman has a tip that Doug Ford will not run in 2022.
I know fully expect him to stay on as leader until he is voted out.
