Taken on holiday Monday (July 2). You've probably seen these views a million times before, in person or in photos.

View of the decommissioned Ontario Power Company powerhouse... which now looks just as old as the escarpment it's built on.

Another piece of Niagara power generation history... the rock wall of the Schoellkopf Power Plant on the American side (destroyed in 1956 in a rockfall)

i love the old power plant buildings in niagara. i wish they would give tours or something even if it was during an event like doors open.

Great Niagara pix!

Wylie: Good recent pics of Niagara Falls! I have been there a bunch of times but some things just do not change. The biggest changes are in the Skylon vicinity where all those hotel towers have been constructed to support the casinos in the area. It is still the good tourist destination we all remember but will the new US-Canada border requirements put a damper on things there? LI MIKE

From the photos I've seen from "urban explorers" they've been stripped of many of their interesting elements (such as the bays and generators), but in the Toronto Power building the decadent marble walled offices are intact with their stunning moldings.

Curious, but how long did it take you to get there? I'm assuming you went by car.

We went the day prior and it was bumper-to-bumper from Mississauga to the border and was a horrendous 3.5 hour drive just to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I have a few pictures that I'll post here in a few days.

^ I did go by car. Don't exactly remember how long it took, but traffic was slow all through Oakville on the QEW due to bridge construction, and then again at St. Catharines due to lane reductions. Fortunately I took the suggested detour- the 406 through St. Catharines, and then Hwy 58 to Niagara Falls. (via the cool tunnel under the Welland Canal!)

Niagara Pix...

DS416: That photo of the Robert Moses Power Vista shows the modernist top as you say-that is the Visitors Center and Museum operated by the NYS Power Authority. I have been there - it describes the power generation at Niagara and how electricity is transmitted throughout NYS. The Robert Moses Parkway goes over the top of the dam N/S - Does any road go near or over the Sir Adam Beck power plant on the Ontario side? Again good Niagara pix! LI MIKE
