    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

And the point of many who are responding to you is..... electrification is not an end in its self. Not having it is not a pain point. Torontonians are sleeping just fine without it. It will be great when it happens - and it will - but nobody is suffering much in the meanwhile. Except you, it...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Again, I'm quite uninformed.....but as a lay person I have to think that the release of the lion's share of funds is only when the contract is ready to be awarded. ML will likely have already received funds to do the design (to the level needed to collect bids).... but that's a relatively small...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Thanks. Clearly, I'm not a government accountant. But as a layperson I have a sneaking suspicion that when politicians announce transit projects, they have not set aside any money in a bag for this promise. So, when ML is ready to do a piece of work, it has to make a trip back to the Province...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It says something that certain of us pore over these - and save the old ones so that when ML rewrites them, we can determine what has changed. With ML, history - like rust - never sleeps. In this case - there is a certain amount of work completed since the January outlook report Heritage Road...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Can't agree more !. I'm as pumped as anyone about the Jays, but.... it would be useful to know what work got cancelled, when it will be resumed, what penalties/costs were incurred by deferring, and how it affects critical path timing for service improvements. And were any of the work items...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

While riding the GO today, I noticed that there was a construction crew working on the UP platform at Mount Dennis. You’d have thought that with all the delays to Crosstown, it would be finished by now ! While some of the construction fencing is down, there were still plenty of toolboxes and...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

I would agree that if anyone feels “caged”, we have done it wrong. But asking for a detour of 50 meters should not be seen as a disincentive to walking. It’s more a matter of reminding that hey, it may be safer to make a slight detour. I especially like the setback it allows for vehicle stops...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

While across the pond recently, I noted just how willing other jurisdictions are to install barriers that do constrain pedestrian crossing to certain safer and more predictable locations. In particular I saw it used to channel pedestrians toward signalised crossings and away from bad visibility...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

When this first happened, there was a Ford sound bite on 680 News where Ford described driving off the 401 at Eglinton and being “surprised” by a speed camera somewhere around Martin Grove. I would hope that someone factchecks that drive - I am willing to bet that he must have driven by 2 or 3...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Riders will get used to it pretty quickly. Possibly a good idea so that riders won't crowd around the crosswalks. To my eye, those islands are pretty narrow for rush hour crowds. - Paul

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

LOL old guy bragging rights - once upon a time, TTC/GCL augmented local school boards' bus fleets with chartered end-of-life coaches fitted with School Bus signs. Summer Parks and Rec programs, also. My Grade 5-6 diet included Cancars, Twins, GM Old Looks, and (once) a PD-4104. Uphill, both...

    VIA Rail

The 2008-2009 expansion plan that Ottawa approved was cut back as costs mounted.... there must have been a next-highest- priority piece of that program that almost got built. The plans for those incremental pieces are no doubt sitting in a drawer somewhere and likely actionable on a short...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It's not ideal....but.... considering how long it takes to line up the logistics and plans for a ML work window, I'm not blaming ML for not waiting to see if the Jays are in good form as the playoffs near. Maybe ML can plan a massive work window blitz for next April-May during the NHL playoffs...

    VIA Rail

And the results may also be skewed if one factors in travel to business locations that are beyond the King-Bay core… Yonge/Bloor, University Hospital Network, Eglinton/Yonge, etc etc - Paul

    VIA Rail

The reality of cracks in LRC cars leading to end of life has been acknowledged for years. If some cars have reached end of life lately, it's not a surprise. The surprise is how many are still out there. - Paul

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

I continue to be surprised that Ontario hasn't been more aggressive in demanding money for VIA's use of the GO Expansion infrastructure. But since we don't get to see the service agreement between ML and VIA, perhaps there are things we don't know. - Paul

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Interesting that they would announce this now, because the corridor looks to have just about all the prep work completed to enable laying of the final subgrade and track laying and ballasting. The big impediments are the Birchmount bridge and the Danforth station. I hope they are not trying to...
