Why does Toronto pick such horrible names for public spaces, stations, airports etc.?

"Vaughan Metropolitan City Centre" and "Brampton Innovation District Station" are attempts at branding the areas as modern, urbane and cutting edge. I don't mind the former - see North York City Centre in the 90s - but the latter is a big yuck. Brampton Innovation District sounds like it was...

    Toronto Public Library Catch-All

Mayor Chow announces new Sunday hours for many locations, with plans on making all locations open on Sundays by 2026. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/libraries-opening-plan-1.7364459

Agreed. I give relatively high marks to Ford on transit (at least relative to his other policies), but it’s a travesty that the Eglinton Crosstown West extension is being buried. We could have used the money saved for the burying for the nearby (and unfunded) Jane LRT.

I was in the area by car last Saturday and can confirm that the traffic is just as bad on the weekend. Godspeed to anyone who attempts to enter or leave Costco parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. This project, combined with the Cineplex proposal, will make the area brutal for traffic unless...

    Riverdale

There's also some crossover in North Riverdale residents saying they live on The Danforth once you get north of Bain Avenue area. Similar with Blake-Jones north of Boultbee, although most residents west of Jones identify with The Pocket.

    Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

An interesting development in the Don Valley West city council by-election race. Two candidates, Dhruv Jain and Evan Sambasivam, have dropped out to endorse Rachel Chernos Lin. A recent poll had Anthony Furey with a small lead over Chernos Lin, so it could make a difference on election day two...

    Harbourfront Centre

The temporary movement of *some* of the Ontario Science Centre to Harbourfront Centre, while unfortunate, could help the Centre improve its finances and revitalize the facility...

    Toronto 1410 Eglinton Avenue West | 153.25m | 43s | Starbank | Turner Fleischer

I tend to prefer midrises along major streets which have a strong retail and commercial presence, but I'm willing to support towers if, as in this location, it's a stone's throw from a transit hub.
