    Scarborough-Malvern LRT

Hm. Didn't catch that part. Thanks. Am I safe to presume that the cost of said MSF is within the magic $1 billion number? Where would the MSF go, though? At risk of doing transit planning by Google Maps, it seems the only place for a yard would be next door to UTSC itself. There is some land...

    Scarborough-Malvern LRT

Absent a yard at the eastern end, the deadheading that is going to be required at start of day is going to be pretty ridiculous. The trains are going to have to be spooled out of Black Creek all the way out to UTSC every morning, which is going to take most of an hour at best. You might be able...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I think Line 1 will be longer, but more people will ride the Crosstown for longer. Only railheads take Line 1 all the way around, whereas I can see a few more people in the east attracted by a single ride directly to the airport, no trip to downtown required.

    Scarborough-Malvern LRT

Councillor Glenn De Baeremaker, who Tory dubbed the Scarborough subway champion after he pushed the line onto the council agenda in 2013, said he was at first shocked to learn it was being revised. “We moved heaven and earth to get the Scarborough subway on the map, to get it approved, to get...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

If ST did have 5 minute frequency and was run on TTC fares, then I am not surprised that lots of people would ride it. Whether that is remotely achievable without the reduced budget multiplying many times and requiring hefty ongoing subsidies is another matter entirely.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

When we get into overruns (which of course we will), the province and the federal government will be nowhere to be seen. Add another billion for a more realistic figure, and that's only if subway boosters are willing to save the patient by stopping the subway at STC (thus removing much of what...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Old link, but a reminder of happier times for Bombardier's rail division: https://www.railexpress.com.au/first-gold-coast-light-rail-trams-delivered/ The distance between Bautzen, Germany and Brisbane, Australia: 15,691 km. Incidentally, the same system just exercised an option for 4 more trams.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

A car-free existence is quite possible, although living within walking distance of the very edge of TTC service helps a lot. Any long-distance trips, we hire a car, and we then use the car to do a run for any large/bulky items (large beer run, IKEA, etc). I figure we could easily rent a car for...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

My wife and I use the 102D semi-regularly. There is no diversion: it is going directly up Markham Road. The detour ended in December 2014. While it is not the worst bus service ever ever ever, it is pretty damn bad. Highly irregular service, plus double fare helps keep usage to those who have no...

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

Speak of the Denzil … http://www.torontosun.com/2015/02/21/light-a-fire-under-waterfront-toronto The reason that DMW is being rightly ignored is that he is a terminal penny-pincher who has no concept of value being released long-term. Even the editorial admits that the reason behind QQ...

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Mayoral Race

Man, Tory does know how to unravel himself completely over an issue no-one was talking about, and manage to hack people off about it. The bigots will stick with Ford, anti-Ford supporters might well start seriously considering a mayoral candidate who has been a regular attendee and supporter of...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Spurred by things I saw in the new streetcar thread, but not strictly belonging there, so they're going here: I really like that the TTC has begun stricter enforcement of its existing laws and bylaws, with the inspectors riding the streetcars in something approaching substantial numbers. With...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The whole section of the line between Eglinton and St Clair needs to be replaced from the ground up. Replacing this in a single weeks-long operation with the contractors working flat out would be a huge operation, one which Andy Byford has indicated would require many resources. Not least of...

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

Appropriate. One political opportunist quotes another one. Before WWII immortalized him, Churchill had something of a reputation as a blatant opportunist, switching from Tory, to Liberal, and back again. Churchill's loyalty to Churchill never wavered, though.

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Mayoral Race

Thompson vs. KWT would be a fascinating watch. Both principled, astute, highly articulate, and from very different places ideologically.

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

Augimeri vs. Cusimano, round umpteen. http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/canada/toronto/maria-augimeri-breached-code-of-conduct-integrity-commissioner-rules-1.2743045 Cusimano is a Ford acolyte, but Augimeri's let fly one too many times about him. They should settle Hamilton v Burr-style. Local park...
