    2022/23 Russian-Ukrainian War

Chill, folks. You're not dealing with a complete idiot. My point was the thing has been sitting for 16 months and will need extensive maintenance work by techs who are familiar/certified with the type, have access to any needed parts and have access to the manuals - which likely aren't in...

    2022/23 Russian-Ukrainian War

And we've apparently seized, "on behalf of Ukraine", the Antonov 124 that's been parked at Pearson for the past several months. It was still there as of about 2 hours ago when I drove by. Some news sites are saying that Ukraine plans to put it in service to airlift supplies into the country...

    The Weather

It's a go-to response for many. The great N/E blackout of 2003 started here (it didn't); the 9/11 terrorists came from here (they didn't).

Maybe they could re-lay the Kingston & Pembroke and run doodlebugs for the tens of people who would use it.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

And what *I* really hate is when someone stomps on an opinion or viewpoint with both feet. Policy is only as good as the politicians allow it to be exercised.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

All of these millions of public dollars to access a community of slightly over 2,000. Interesting.

    The Weather

We've had lots of haze over the past number of days and some blood-red sunrises and moons but this is the first day I've noticed the smell. Distance vision is seriously diminished.

    The Weather

Strange how the danger ratings magically change at the Ontario-Manitoba border. Must be different provincial criteria.

It must really rub when our members see the Danes with more and better Canadian-sourced kit.

    2022/23 Russian-Ukrainian War

That's been the official line out of Russian from the beginning; that Ukraine is neither a legitimate county or culture. I don't know enough about the history of the area to know if that is an established Russian cultural view or simply Russian military doctrine to de-humanize the enemy.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

I agree. I'm a map guy; never touched a GPS in my life. When travelling in a new area, I like to get a map for the area so I can see what is off but near my route that might be of interest. Not a fan of just following a moving line on a screen. Some of the amalgamated municipalities are so...

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

I'm not sure how the Conservative war room viewed the Harris moves after action. A lot of his tinkering was amalgamating rural municipalities and/or small towns into larger ones, which was probably pretty benign. There were a lot of unhappy people in places like Chatham-Kent, City of Kawartha...

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

I can't find anything that says the one in Parry Sound is the one in the photo or even came from Toronto. They were pretty common back in the day. I couldn't find anything online that had the provenance of the one in Parry Sound.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Under the heading of 'be careful what you wish for', a nuclear option that the government certainly won't exercise, is dissolving both Mississauga and Brampton into a single Municipality of Peel. population about 1.4Mn. Problem solved. 😁

    Canada and the World

A very valid point regardless of whether the preferred direction is diesel-electric, AIP or nuclear (which I think is a conning tower-too-far for Canadians), The CAF needs to become a more sought after employer - somehow.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The way I recall the 'Harris downloading' of roads, the base criteria was whether the road now served a local vs. inter-jurisdictional purpose, but there was a balancing-of-books component as well between the province and municipalities since the province also uploaded some services. There is a...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Not sure if you are referring to private advertising signs or those on municipal/provincial property. It's called advertising. I don't like the clutter, but here we are. I assume both (every) municipality has a 'sign bylaw'. What they say and how strongly they are enforced depends. The MTO...
