Post your pictures of Toronto here!

Dusk from Humber Bay Shores… ”Towery city and branchy between towers.” Gerard Manley Hopkins (Yes, Hopkins was describing Oxford and certainly not Toronto. But it’s a lovely poem.)

    What's your Walk Score?

71, very walkable, for Beyond the Sea in Humber Bay Shores (It scores even higher in the weird name department.) but the site doesn’t seem to know anything at all about what’s in the neighborhood. Just one example: it thinks the nearest park is on Grand Ave, north of the railroad tracks. it...

    Toronto | Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

Thanks for finding all that information about John Tinsley. Obviously a remarkable man in several different respects! Honouring him and the history he represents by naming a street after him is well past due.

    Toronto | Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

Fascinating historical note about John Tinsley. I wonder about the dates of his birth and death, however. 1782-1892? It’s not impossible but a lifespan of 110 would definitely be highly unusual. I wonder if they meant 1792-1882. That would be lengthy span in the 19th century in itself. That...

I think many or at least some people do value design and would value it more with choice at a reasonable cost. But I think the first and main design considerations for many residents have to do with the interior, the layout, use of space and, of course, quality of fit and finish etc. I think...

Swimming in Lake Ontario on a balmy 2 degrees C day. The swimmer is not wearing a wet suit or other special gear, just an ordinary swimsuit. And it wasn’t just an in and out plunge, but an actual swim. I was wearing a parka at the time. Photo credit, Mme67Cup.

    Toronto Wildlife

It’s not the seventh day of Christmas and there are more than seven swans a swimming in the photo, but, well, here they are. These swans are Trumpeters, which are a species native to North America, unlike the orange billed Mute Swan. There are more Trumpeters this year than in past seasons...

    Toronto Wildlife

A pair of Trumpeter Swans has appeared at Humber Bay Park. (Black rather than the orange bill of the Mute swan. No knob on the bill. it could be a Tundra swan but they frequently have a yellow spot below the eyes near the top of the bill. Neither of these do.). The Trumpeter swan is native to...

The mist rises. Well, maybe it doesn’t actually rise, but ”rise” sounds more poetic than “Dissipate.”

Crane Day at the marinas in West Humber Park. The marinas rent huge mobile cranes to hoist yachts out for winter storage. A touch of sadness at the end of the season.

An Autumn walk in the park. The water level is as low as I have seen it since moving to Humber Bay. Some hard shell sunbathers. We also saw a mink, but, unfortunately, no photo.
