Hiring international designers and not giving them a budget is a Toronto specialty - developers here don't care about the building, they just care about getting the brand name of the architect.

The Bright Building (749 King St W, Kitchener, 18s, Martin Simmons)

this is a total precast modular building - a lot of them are going up west of toronto in cities like Hamilton, KW and London

1842 King St E (Hamilton, New Horizon Development Group, 4x12s, 2x4s, Graziani + Corazza)

This is pretty far from the LRT in a very auto reliant area so I'm not super surprised. It is served by the 5 Delaware bus that loops through Rosedale but the service is infrequent.

I’m not sure it really registers in the public consciousness that there are three towers coming to this site, and that the distillery will essentially be doubling in size. Very excited to see how the public realm of these three buildings extends and enhances the distillery feel further south.

great gulf is either really good (one bloor, monde, the clair if they ever build it) or very bad (power and adelaide, 357 king, yonge and rich)

Meeting went pretty well and also ended early, which I have personally never seen happen during a community consultation before. A few people said they liked the preliminary designs. Nobody really had anything to say about the built form since it's exactly the same height as The Jack. Only...

From Bremner - side note, I just really love honey locust trees. Not native from what I gather, but they grow so dang well here. They all look really healthy and they turn the most lovely shade of yellow in the fall.

That's because 110 Charles is an exceptionally well designed and built building - the Novotel is not.

From a distance - grid looks better from far away / when it’s very sunny. Wouldn’t have minded if the white fins were a bit more beefy, but overall the project is quite nice.

Agreed ^ while these look great, having three buildings in a row all with the same material finishes is quite monotonous, not to mention that block 7 will use the same brick as here. Some variety would go a really long way to adding diversity and that “fine grained” feel we all want to see more of.

That tile mock posted above is actually on site beside the park with a little plaque - it’s between the construction site and water park place if you would like to check it out IRL
