Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

PapaBob (and others), there is quite a collection of Panoramic WWI Canadian Expeditionary Force photos on the Digitized Manuscripts section of the British Library Website
http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/Default.aspx

Search with 'Canada' as the keyword and a date range of 1875-2000
This is the 86th Machine Gun Bn at Niagara

Wonderful links Anna. Thanks.
Here's one of the fantastic panoramas.
On the British Library site they can be greatly enlarged - more so than this copy:

That's an amazing discovery, Mustapha!
The school is out-of-sight to most passersby.

I've passed this by hundreds of times and never noticed a thing. Interesting that they chose to adapt an old building in this manner.

Goldie, yourself and I shared the same sense of surprise on this one. When I saw the old picture at the TPL website, my first reaction was 'it's not there anymore'; even after doing a Google streetview look-see.

Then and Now for November 6, 2012.

Then. Frontenac Arms. Jarvis Street. 1950-ish?

Now. May 2012. It's a Ramada now.....It was built in 1930 as an apartment house. It eventually became a hotel; the only former names I can remember now are: The Carriage House and The Essex House. I'm guessing here but it is probably the third oldest hostelry still in business after the King Edward and the Royal York.

Then. #s 3 - 19 Wilmot Street. July 29, 1949. This long gone street was about 50 paces S of the present intersection of Sackville and Gerrard. We are looking WSW.

Mustapha's photo (June/2011) of the National Club reveals the newly constructed Trump Tower to the left.
The other image is a view of the north wall of the National Club before Trump arrived.
