Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

I was under the impression the section between Spadina and Jarvis is still in need of replacement?? Do I have this right??
Yes, you do

People in the city have been going crazy with the current stretch of rehabilitation work, but they havent seen anything.

Hope everyone has their popcorn ready for Phase 4.
Right?! And the headlines aren’t helping by suggesting construction will be “complete” soon. The downtown stretch is going to be utter chaos… where in the heck will east Enders get off when they work on the Jarvis off ramp now that there’s no Logan off ramp and the city is years away from delivering Cherry street off ramps?? This can’t happen before the Cherry street on/off ramps are built!!

Isn’t the plan to remove the Bay on ramp first and then add the new off ramp to Yonge and then remove the Jarvis off ramp? Apple maps

The phase 4 rehab section is Grand Magazine to York.

The condition of the concrete box girder section between York and Jarvis was deemed ‘good enough’ to schedule the work for 2035.

The next phase is supposed to be Highway 427 to the Humber River, which the City has already started some bridge work on. I don't believe that stretch requires long term lane closures beyond the ones already active, which should give a bit of a "break" to the traffic.

Section 4 is going to be just as much of a pain as Section 2. If the City can find a way to squeeze the 6 lane part over to the Spadina Exit (the on/off merge lanes for Spadina end right around Grand Magazine) with lane reductions running only east of that, it might be slightly less painful than the current closure as AADT starts to drop east of Spadina. I imagine they'll do the same 24/7 construction for that part.

The East end phase, Phase 5, will be the longest with the eastern end of the Gardiner probably being demolish and closed for ~3 years. It's also a fairly low AADT part so will likely see a lot less traffic impact, unless you live in the east end..

At a certain point the phases will be taken over by MTO as well. Which will be interesting to see if they change the approach much.

Any closure of the Spadina off ramps is going to be hell. Going to be interesting to see how they do it all. It seems so far out now that maybe I won't be working DT anymore haha (East ender). Plus the Ontario Line might be done by then too.

It's probably only 2-3 years out, so not too long away, unfortunately. The east end portion with the reconstruction of the cherry ramps is probably more like 4-5 years.

The whole program is running pretty far behind schedule. Originally it was all supposed to be done by 2029.

I'm sure this as been addressed, but what's the chance of the province taking over the Gardiner and changing the plans the city already voted on. For example, instead of the hybrid proposal that they decided on, the province instead rebuilds the eastern section as is, with the ramp at Logan again?
Or has the decision for the hybrid been written and signed in stone. Does the Province have to respect and follow through with that decision made by council?
The reason why I asked is because I recall Doug being in favor of the rebuild as is option. But I'm sure with development opportunities, he would have had a change of heart.

Wow,! One can dream! Bringing back the eastern ramps or at least accelerating cherry street ramp builds is SOOOOO necessary!
