TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Of course, what I'd REALLY like is for them to go back to human announcements, as the overuse of computer generated announcements makes the whole experience of transit use feel dehumanizing and impersonal, but I think that ship has sailed...
Thought the exact same thing, I'm a bit nostalgic for the announcement voice of ~15 years ago over the current one (obviously the former was still automated but pre-recorded).

What's the difference between the design of Kennedy and Kipling that I don't experience turnaround delays approaching the latter? I thought they both utilise a crossover switch before the station?
There are no differences in terms of the signal system between Kennedy and Kipling. And in terms of track alignment, both are capable of approximately the same throughput.

That said, Kennedy has always been slightly more problematic as the longer distance between it and the preceding station - Warden - is such that the trains are averaging a higher average speed across that section than they are in the west. But the reality is that the differences aren't major, and don't really account for what you are seeing.

If it helps, the VP-Kennedy journey occurs routinely at around 8pm on weekdays.
Which is exactly when service tapers off from rush hours frequencies to evening frequencies.

Train throughput does actually go down at this point as the trains going out of service need a bit more time on the platform to do their checks before they run back to the yard. This means that they are occupying the platforms for longer than normal - and so this bogs down the system.

Cheers for the detailed explanation Dan, much appreciated.

Has any thought been given to standardizing the announcements on the bus fleet with those on the Toronto Rockets and Flexitys? I can't stand the bus ones, they seem to be exactly the right amount of mumbled so that I can't understand the name of a single non-major street without looking at the internal display, which seems to defeat their whole purpose. The rail based announcements seem to be a lot clearer.

Remember when it couldn't say "ahh-veee-new"

Couldn't agree more. I've hated the robot voices here since day 1.
Get a professional voice actor or similar to do them like in NYC or London. They sound great.

It broke my heart when Morgan Freeman got ousted as the new voice of the SkyTrain...

TTC 4635 was been service on Robina Ave and reenter service on 512 about 30 minutes later

Lots of huge gaps with 2 cars minutes apart and one reasons why a lot of stops were full that I pass by.

Damaged signal cable will slow trains King to St Andrew for an indeterminate amount of time.

"With apologies to our customers, we are dealing with a damaged signal cable near the TTC’s Union Station. This means trains have to travel at reduced speeds in the area, adding five to 10 minutes to trip and wait times between King and St Andrew stations both ways,” a TTC spokesperson wrote on X.
